Where is Lake Superior?
Lake Superior is shared by Ontario to the north, Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan to the south, and Minnesota to the west. It is fed by more than 200 rivers and it empties into Lake Huron via the St. Marys River and the Soo Locks.
This is the largest freshwater lake in the world by area and the third largest in volume. The largest island here is Isle Royale lying in the state of Michigan. Some other known islands here include Madeline Island, Michipicoten Island, and Grand Island.
Major cities located on the lake include the twin ports of Duluth, Minnesota and Superior, Wisconsin, Thunder Bay, Ontario, Marquette, Michigan, and the twin cities of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, and Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.

The lake has a surface area of 31,700 square miles (82,103 km2) which is almost the size of South Carolina or Austria. The maximum length of the lake is 350 statute miles (560 km; 300 nmi) and maximum breadth is 160 statute miles (257 km; 139 nmi). Its shoreline stretches 2,726 miles (4,387 km).

This amount is enough to cover the total landmass of both the North and South America to a depth of 30 cm (12 in).
Lake Superior and the Great Lakes
Lake Superior is the largest lake among all five of the Great Lakes. It is also the world's largest freshwater lake by surface area and the third-largest freshwater lake by volume. The lake also has the highest elevation of all five great lakes and it drains into the St. Mary's River.
This lake is also an important link in the Great Lakes Waterway. It provides a route for the transportation of iron ore, grain and other mined and manufactured materials. Many large cargo vessels and smaller ocean-going freighters transport these commodities across Lake Superior.
