Where is Lake Winnebago located?

Lake Winnebago is located in the north-central United States, in east-central Wisconsin. It has 2 primary tributaries, the Wolf and Fox Rivers, which combine at Lake Butte des Morts.

Major cities found on the shore of the lake include the aforementioned Oshkosh, Neenah, and Menasha, as well as Fond du Lac at the south shore. And even though the lake is not man-made, its level was raised about three feet (0.9 m) by two dams on either side of Doty Island. The water level of the lake is regulated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to meet demands for flood control, to reduce ice damage to private property, to release water for hydropower and pollution dilution downstream.

Bathymetry of the Lake

The surface area of Lake Winnebago is 137,700 acres (215.2 sq mi; 557 km2), making it the largest lake entirely within the state. Its average depth is 15.5 feet and the maximum depth is 21 feet. Many shallow reefs lie along the west shore and a drop-off type shoreline on the east.

The maximum length of the lake measures 30 miles (50 km) and the maximum width measures 10 miles (15 km). It has 88 miles of shoreline.
