Aurora is a Home Rule Municipality in the U.S state of Colorado, spanning Arapahoe and Adams counties, with the extreme southeastern portion of the city extended into Douglas County. Aurora is one of the principal cities of the Denver-Aurora-Lakewood, CO Metropolitan Statistical Area (Metro Denver).

The total area of Aurora City is 154.66 square miles (400.5km2) out of which land area is 153.03 square miles (396.3km2). The longitudinal and latitudinal coordinates of the city are N104.41’23” W. Aurora’s official elevation, posted on signs at the city limits, is 5,471 feet (1668 m). However, the city spans a difference in elevation as the lowest elevation of 5,285 feet is found at the point where Sand Creek crosses the city limit, while the highest elevation of 6,229 feet is on the extreme southern border of the city in Douglas County, near the intersection of Inspiration and Gartrell roads.
